WORKING AT KJK
Summer Program
Our summer associate program is an essential component of Kohrman Jackson & Krantz’s hiring process. Each summer we hire from one to three law students, typically one second-year and one first-year student. Because we usually have only two summer associates, each receives intensive mentoring and guidance, and a realistic picture of what it would be like to work at the firm as an attorney after graduation.

Each summer associate is assigned an associate mentor. The mentor and summer associate interact closely throughout the summer. Projects are assigned based on a summer associate’s expressed areas of interest and to provide exposure to a wide variety of work. In addition, assignments are coordinated by a partner who insures that each summer associate receives a mix of projects from attorneys in each of the firm’s practice groups. Although assignments are coordinated centrally, they are not filtered by the coordinator. Instead, the summer associate works directly with the assigning senior associate or partner and receives substantive feedback from the assigning attorney. And we don’t create projects for our summer associates: assignments reflect the type of work that a new attorney would perform as a first or second-year associate at our firm.

The summer program is not only about work, however, and summer associates are enthusiastically welcomed at a variety of firm social events throughout the summer. Summer associates are also encouraged to attend monthly practice group meetings and are often invited to bar association events, client meetings, negotiation and drafting sessions, depositions, trials, pre-trials and other events.

For our summer program, we are looking for students with strong academic credentials, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the desire to be part of our unique atmosphere. We invest significantly in our summer associates and for each second-year associate hired, we fully expect that a successful summer will lead to an offer of permanent employment. Our summer program is a unique opportunity for the right student, not only to learn from the inside out about our varied and challenging legal practice, but to forge what we hope will be a rewarding and long-lived relationship with one of Cleveland’s finest firms.
